Colby Georgsen, B.A., J.D.

Colby practices in the areas of employment law and general civil litigation. His practice focuses primarily on workplace matters, as he regularly advises clients on employment contracts, restrictive covenants, severance negotiations, wrongful dismissal claims, constructive dismissal claims, and human rights complaints. Colby has a strong track record obtaining positive outcomes for his clients in a wide range of employment-related disputes.
Colby also has general litigation experience, advancing and defending claims for breach of contract, debt actions, negligence, defamation, property disputes, residential and commercial tenancy disputes, and judicial review applications.
Colby brings a reasoned and pragmatic approach to litigation. His advice centers on pursuing cost-effective solutions to client issues. Although Colby is often successful in resolving disputes outside of Court through negotiated settlements, he is also an effective advocate when litigation is necessary. Colby has successfully appeared before both the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta and the Provincial Court of Alberta.
Colby grew up in Langdon, Alberta, before completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Calgary and law school at the University of Ottawa. After completing his articles with the federal Department of Justice, Colby moved back to Alberta and joined Getz, Collins as an Associate in 2021.
Colby is also active outside the office. He has volunteer experience with several non-profit organizations, including Calgary Reads, SHOUT Canada, and the Ottawa Law Classic, a charity hockey event to raise funds for mental health research. He has also been a Hockey Canada referee for 15 years, officiating at the Junior A and University level.
Colby’s upbringing and experience have taught him the value of integrity, a strong work ethic, and critical thinking, all of which guide his efforts to assist his clients effectively.
