Coltyn is a Calgary based lawyer whose practice focuses primarily on employment matters. He has experience advising both employees and employers regarding severance negotiations, claims for wrongful dismissal and constructive dismissal, workplace injuries, human rights complaints, and instances of workplace harassment. Coltyn also has general litigation experience, having successfully resolved disputes involving breaches of contract, negligence, construction projects, natural resource projects, and corporate shareholder interests.

Coltyn believes in taking a practical approach to dispute resolution, exploring all available options to achieve his client’s goals in a manner which is both thorough and cost-effective. He is regularly successful in negotiating settlements without the need for formal litigation. However, when required, Coltyn is a stark and effective advocate, having successfully appeared before the Alberta Court of Justice and Alberta Court of King’s Bench.

Coltyn grew up in Chestermere, Alberta before attending the University of Calgary. There, he obtained his degree in Political Science with First Class Honours and was recognized by the University of Calgary for his independent research on Canadian municipal elections, winning “Best Undergraduate Honours Thesis” for 2017-2018. Coltyn also attended law school at the University of Calgary, during which time he volunteered, and was recognized, as the “Most Outstanding Project Leader” for The Consent Project, a program aimed at educating high-school aged students about the topic of consent in sexual activity.

Outside of the law, Coltyn is passionate about sports, reading, and cooking for friends and family. Depending on the season, you may find him at the golf course, hockey rink, or hiding from the elements altogether with a new recipe and a fantasy novel.
